Sat 26 June WSC 1 - Kingborough 1

Following on from their Youth Plate penalty shoot-out win against Kingborough Lions Blue last Sunday, the WSC Under 13s again dragged Kingborough to a full-time draw. This week, as the final whistle blew, the score was one all.

Blake Bloomfield, who was awesome in goals for last week's shoot out, this weekend proved his versatility by scoring Woodbridge's goal, which according to El Presidente:
“was a lovely free kick from well outside the 18 yard box that curled and dipped even more than the 'supermarket balls' over in Africa. It went in the top right hand corner and the keeper had no chance.”

New Town Eagles 1 - Woodbridge 1

Woodbridge U13, 1st May 2010

We have been playing against this team and this coach now for at least 3 years, a friendly rivalry and respect has developed over this time. We are continually improving our positional play and our running off the ball. Another good solid performance was given by Jacob Holland in goal in the first half and again by Blake Bloomfield in the second. The Eagles broke through our defence many times in the back line in the second half but every time shot straight into Blake’s capable hands.
It was a great team effort that saw Dylan Hall score his first goal for the main season.

Kingborough 5 - Woodbridge 1

This team is in a really awkward stage in their football development, for some of them the change from the small sided format has been extreme. Suddenly they are on the big pitch, with the big goals and ... offside??

However despite this, a 5-1 loss against any Kingborough team is a respectable result, they are a professional club and produce teams that play a professional style of football. There was plenty for us to take away from this game to work on. The most important being playing and holding positions; the older version of ‘seagull soccer’ will not work in this competition.

Both Blake and Jacob performed well in goals, both making successful saves in 1v1 situations. Defensively we performed well, our back line is lacking a little structure but our entire team defended well on the day. We struggled in attack as the mid field was congested and it was hard to get the ball wide, quickly to our wingers. The sheer persistence of our attack created several goal scoring opportunities in both halves and much to everyone’s relief Thomas managed to put one of them away.

It will be quite exciting watching this team come together over the course of this season.

Next match – New Town Eagles @ Woodbridge @ 12pm.

Under 13 Lighting Premiership

- example post -

Our under 13’s came together on the pitch for the first time for three 20 minute games on Saturday in the Lightning Cup at the showgrounds in Hobart. We had a win against DOSA, went down by a rather large margin to Glenorchy Knights, and went down by 4 to South Hobart. It was a fantastic effort due to the inherent talents of all of the players involved. With a bit more training under their belt they will be a formidable outfit to look out for this season.
